About Us

For nearly a century, Ottawa Valley Grain Products (OVGP) has been deeply rooted in the agricultural heritage of the Ottawa Valley. Founded in 1929 by Nat Lindsay with the purchase of a small flour mill in Renfrew, Ontario, the company quickly evolved alongside the changing needs of local farmers—expanding into registered seed sales, split pea processing, feed manufacturing, and grain milling. Over the decades, OVGP continued to grow through the acquisition of several mills across the region, including its current Carp, Ontario location, a historic milling site dating back to 1827. Today, as a fourth-generation family-owned and operated business, OVGP proudly continues its tradition of producing all-natural, high-quality whole grain products using classic stone milling techniques and generations of hands-on expertise.

At the heart of OVGP is a commitment to local agriculture and community connection. From its historic 100-acre farm on Appleton Side Road in Almonte to partnerships with farmers across Ottawa and the Valley, OVGP works closely with local growers to ensure every product is locally sourced, carefully milled, and thoughtfully distributed. From farm to mill to kitchen table, OVGP knows exactly where its grain comes from and how it is processed. This close relationship with local agriculture not only supports the regional farming economy, but also reinforces the company’s dedication to quality, consistency, and sustainability.

Food safety and innovation remain central to OVGP’s continued success. Backed by more than 75 years of milling experience, the company works closely with food safety consultants to continually refine its Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Plan, monitor industry standards, and maintain rigorous product testing practices. Whether supplying private-label consumer packaging, bulk bags, totes, truckloads, or containers, OVGP remains committed to delivering dependable, premium-quality grain products to customers of all sizes.

To honour its longstanding history and celebrate its Ottawa Valley roots, OVGP also commissioned a large-scale mural created in collaboration with local Ottawa artist Candice Wei. The mural brings the company’s story to life by depicting founder Nat Lindsay alongside the hardworking farmers who helped shape the region’s agricultural identity. More than a work of art, the mural stands as a tribute to the generations of local families, farmers, and workers who continue to define the spirit and legacy of Ottawa Valley Grain Products.
